SalsaNachos Interview

By Interviewer at 02/03/09 12:54

Name of your website?

SalsaNachos

Your name?

Juan Riviera

Your Location (city, etc)

Los Angeles

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We feature Mexican foods and food products, such as hard to find salsas, dulces and kitchenware. Basically you can buy your Mexican groceries even though you are not in Mexico!

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I found that there were so many great tasting Mexican products that I couldn't find once I stopped living there, and I realized a lot of people felt my sentiment. The other online stores out there charge an arm and a leg for these things, so I decided to open my own and charge fair prices.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I opened in January of 2009.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I wanted something that was fun, easy to remember, and easy to spell!

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

We are cheaper than pretty much everyone else on the internet, we have no minimum orders like other websites, and we love getting good products to our customers around the world!

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To keep expanding our revenue so that we can reduce our costs even more and pass them along to the consumers.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

We make a very small profit, but overall break even since our prices are so low! But despite this, we love doing it.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would have an online chat and also do more online advertising.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Difficulties of shipping with UPS, but otherwise everything has been flowing smoothly.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Figuring out the best place to locate my advertising on a very small budget!

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Adding products to Google Base.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It has been every bit as enjoyable as i anticipated.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I have been running it for just over a month ( i started building it back in November, but launched in January). I will keep operating the site, even if i run it as a loss as I enjoy making sure other people who love these products get their "fix" of their hard to find Mexican foods!

What is your website address?

SalsaNachos
