CoffeeTico Services: Costa Rica Coffee & Espresso Machines Interview

By Interviewer at 04/07/08 12:04

Name of your website?

CoffeeTico Services: Costa Rica Coffee & Espresso Machines

Your name?

Ligia Moss

Your Location (city, etc)

Gaithersburg

Please give us a short summary of your website?

CoffeeTico Services™ is a full service coffee store, selling Costa Rica coffee (Tarrazu Coffee and Espresso Coffee) and the highest quality Italian automatic espresso machines that can make specialty drinks, one cup at a time. We deliver the "The bean and the machine..."

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Love for Costa Rican Cafe Rey coffee and wanted for others to be able to experience the invariable taste and aroma. Loving simplicity, I added automatic espresso machines that with just a simple push of a button, they grind whole beans, dose the perfect amount of ground coffee, tamp, brew, and discard the used grounds into an internal dregdrawer.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

2006 www.coffeetico.com

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I wanted the name to be simple- thus the coffee portion in our company name. "Tico" is the name Costa Ricans are usually referred to by themselves and persons of other Spanish-speaking countries, instead of using the more-formal "costarricense".

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

The sell "the bean and the machine". The bean: We sell Costa Cafe Rey which is the finest Costa Rica coffee. Cafe Rey is consumed by the majority of Costa Ricans and is a true Costa Rica tradition and is known for its invariable taste and aroma. Cafe Rey has over 50 years of experience in selecting coffee beans and expertly roasting them to perfection. Cafe Rey was the first roaster in Central America that complied with the strictest European standards regarding emissions. Cafe Rey has the reputation for blending the aroma, body, and taste attributes that Costa Rica coffee is internationally known for. The machine: For simplicity, we sell automatic espresso machines that with just a simple push of a button, they grind whole beans, dose the perfect amount of ground coffee, tamp, brew, and discard the used grounds into an internal dregdrawer.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To continue to sell what I love...

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Seeing others enjoy a great cup of coffee, is the greatest success. Therefore, any investmet of time and money pays off with gratification.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would advertise more so more people can enjoy a great cup of coffee at home, work or when they go out to a restaurant.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Sure! It is only in the planning and adding resources.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Unexpected costs including dealing with import costs and shipping logistics; developing a competitive website and promoting the products.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Promoting Costa Rican coffee that many people in the U.S. are not familiar with but are starting to enjoy.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth and providing personal service on the machines.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Having the website listed on search engines has been a lot of work.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Two years, since 2006. I plan to continue it for a looooooooooooooooong time.

Replace this with a question of your own

Coffee anyone?

What is your website address?
