What is the name of your Blog?

Simply Trini Cooking

What is your name?

Felix Padilla

Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)

Trinidad and Tobago

What is your current age or age range?

30

Please describe your blog

My blog is all about cooking in my country. I write about the more traditional style recipes that has been influenced by the different cultures that inhabit the island ( East Indian,African,Spanish,French Creole, Chinese,Syrian/Lebanese) which I must say is a lot of recipes. I haven't even started to scratch the surface as yet when it comes to these dishes.

Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?

This blog firstly for me serves as an archive for the recipes. But I'm seeing already that there's a lot of room for expansion to include other aspects of my culture. I've already added a Trini Dictionary with the common words which we use to communicate. The words used are a mixture, again, of the different cultures even though we speak English.

What blogging platform do you do and why?

I've been using blogger since I've started because it's free and if you know your way around html you can do some neat mods to the templates to add your own style.

What do you blog the most about?

Food ,Culture

Give six of your best blogging tips.

1. Be passionate, as I am, about what you're blogging about 2. For money bloggers don't expect loads money when you start, it takes time as with any business 3. Be personal- This will help build trust between you and your future customers 4. Be yourself - no one likes fakes especially if you're blogging for money 5. Be persistent - Don't give up; never give up. A business is like pushing a car; you've got to push and push until the car builds momentum. At the right momentum the car WILL eventually come to life and take off on it's own. keep on pushing! 6. Reading all the above is the first step. The second step is to actually put it to use. Don't let it become cobwebs in your mind!

What are some things you would NEVER blog about?

Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?

No. I did not start with the sole purpose to make money but as the time goes by it would be nice to get some for my hard work but there's no rush.

How long have you been blogging?

Two months

About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?

Based on my busy schedule, not enough

Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?

Yes. traffic and community building

What promotional techniques work best for you and why?

I haven't really started promoting full scale, but for the time I've submitted to blog directories in the food categories and I'm just allowing the traffic to grow organically!

What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?

Not really a mistake but rather advice... backup your blog! backup your blog!backup your blog!

Who are your top six bloggers and why?

No particular order.... Dr Mani Yaro Starak Joel Comm John Chow Bobby and Rob

I see them as mentors

Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?

Yes.

Any closing remarks?

I hope what I said could be of some help to someone out there in blogger land. As you can see I've now started blogging and like everyone else I have to take my own advice and continue to put it to use.

There are no secrets in life; only things you don't know about as yet.

Every now and again I eventually come back here to reflect on what I wrote and every time I leave with something new, refreshing and motivating. It's been a year now since I started blogging and everything is going fine. I have more traffic coming in and it's growing steadily.Taking my own advice: I will continue to be persistent and never give up. Of course I will continue to be myself. :^)

I'm back again reflecting on what I wrote: time really flies! It's almost two years and things are really picking up. I have even more organic traffic and a simply trini cooking facebook group that's growing steadily. Even more now I see the true potential of the blog as it grows. I have a renewed commitment to my goals I started out with and still taking my own advice especially the sixth blogging tip :-)
