Name of your website? The Cooking Professor
Your name?
Peter Kenyon
Your Location (city, etc)
Perth
Please give us a short summary of your website?
I conduct, hands-on, fun informative cooking classes in Perth. The website tells you all about current and upcoming classes.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I have a passion for cooking and have always wanted to further my interest in it. I have also been a teacher in my 'real job' (Professor of Economics). So the Cooking School was a natural way to extend my hobby into something more, and to convey my passion for cooking to others.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
July 2007, and it is the same as it is today - http://www.thecookingprofessor.com.au
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Well, I am a professor in my 'real job' and someone once gave me the nickname 'the cooking professor', so it was a natural choice!
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
We offer Hands-on cooking classes. Many are just demonstration classes. But like many things in life (e.g. love), participation in cooking is much more important than watching
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Just to have fun and enjoy life
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Don't ask!
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would get a much better, custom built website.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Probably not - I want to remain a boutique but busy operation.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
marketing! I have to keep on top of getting the message out there to keep the bookings coming in.
What has been your biggest challenge?
See above - marketing.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Brochures ion local quality food shops/outlets, newspaper advertisements and, luckily, media interest through interviews, articles and radio and TV spots
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
No, it is important to keep up with it. I only wish that I knew far more html and had web design skills.
What is your website address?
