Food Manners in Costa Rica

By Bill at 06/06/07 10:09

William's Post on Food Manners while a bit humor did hit upon a few good points and I think he missed a couple as well.

  • You need to chew and sallow more before taking a drink
  • Do not make loud noises while chewing

First, I remember the Striking Viking's commentary about his motorcycle ride through Central and South America. The high point (which I can't find one his web site now) was when he stoped at a Chinese Restaurant in Costa Rica and while trying enjoy his dinner was nearly basted out of his seat when the owner let out a humongous fart...

William missed what should be the first rule of good table manners. Don't fart. Don't fart if it makes noise. Don't fart if it smells. Don't fart if it is human nature to fart. That is rule #1. Don't forget it.

And while's we talking about Costa Rica it is also bad manners to scapre the food off a plate into the pot... if people can see you do it... that is for restaurants, you can do what you like in your own home!

FOOD MANNERS

By William at 06/05/07 15:16
Table manners or food manners are the basic etiquette which are used while the people are eating. Table manners differ from different culture to different places. There are many things to follow as if it is not proper to put hands on the table as doing so will create ripple of the cups and bowls kept in the table.

It is best to order food includes a knife and fork in it. If you do not have a special liking to some kind of food, you could tell your host about this several days before the dinner party.

You need to chew and sallow more before taking a drink. You need to show appreciation when some thing is served by saying thank you. You should not smoke while eating as it may cause distress to people.

Always sit straight in the table while eating which makes a good impression while eating with the guest. Never chew with mouth wide open and do not make loud noises while chewing and make sure you do not slurp the soup from your spoon.

If while eating the food is caught in between and cannot be removed then go to a private place where you can remove it. If while eating you need something politely asks the person, who is nearest to the person to get that close to you or pass to you.

Once you finish eating let others know by placing the knife and fork together in the plate to say u have finished.
